3 Reasons to have a First Look

Three Reasons You Should Have a First Look

We encourage a First Look for many reasons and a lot of our reasons have to do with timing and photography and lighting, but the number one reason that we encourage couples to have a First Look, is for the you, the couple.

First Look at Monteluce Winery

Reason #1: Quality Time During a Busy Wedding Day

You, the bride or groom, get to spend some quality time together.  That's it, my #1 reason.  Yes, when you opt for a First Look, you are 'breaking tradition' and seeing each other before the ceremony, but you are also choosing to take time during a very busy, very distracting day, and spend some quality on-on-one time with each other.

Imagine this; you're standing at the most comfortable, most beautiful location that your venue (church, house, getting-ready location) has to offer, all dressed and ready.  As you stand there, nervous, your love walks up to you; asks you to turn around and right then you are no longer nervous.  You hug, kiss, admire, and TALK!  For as long as you'd like! And while you hug, kiss, admire and talk, Logan and I get to take honest photos of you unhindered by the ceremony.

Reason #2: Fun Photos!

After your First Look, we start the fun! We like to allow an hour for photos of our wedding couple.  During that hour, we encourage cuddling, laughing and dancing.  We will explore your venue and make the most of every pretty spot your venue has to offer.

By choosing a First Look, you can also get family and wedding party photos finished prior to the ceremony.  After you say your I Do's you can head straight to the party!

Sara + Logan

Hi, hello, and good day! We thought we'd take a moment to introduce ourselves. Some of you already know us, some of you have heard of us, and others may be new to the scene. So, we thought it would be nice to say hello, and give everyone a little introduction to who we are and what we are all about. Below is Our Story. It was written by one of our siblings, and sums us up pretty well!

~

Sara and Logan are a brother + sister photography team who have decided to band together to become Athens’ most formidable wedding duo. Before merging their businesses, Sara and Logan worked together on weddings for 5 or 6 years, helping each other shoot. Between them, they share over 20 years of experience with wedding photography. They’ve photographed over 300 weddings, either together or with other photographers. Both Logan & Sara have families –three kiddos each! – which has trained them in the art of multitasking, a skill highly valued in the world of weddings.

When you hire Sara + Logan, you are signing up for a pair of photographers that are passionate about two things (plus many more): using photography to document your wedding in the most beautiful way possible, and working to make your wedding stress-free. Both Logan and Sara share a similar photography style, but they each bring a slightly different set of skills to the table that provide for well-rounded coverage of your day.

Growing up, the siblings' were unschooled and part of a large family of seven. As the first and second children in the family, Sara and Logan didn't always see eye-to-eye. Sara was always independent and in-charge, while Logan was always a more emotional and physical type. They grew up in a 'whole-foods' environment and learned young, the value in family, food, and camaraderie. As they entered their teenage years, they grew apart and conquered their own dreams until they reunited in their 20's. It took a town, owning businesses, and babies, to help them reconnect . They quickly found that they shared SO many likes/dislikes. They also found out they worked very well together as a team.

COPYRIGHT_SARALOGANWEDDINGS_2015002After Logan and his wife sold their coffee shop, Logan began to get involved with photography; tinkering with Sara's expensive equipment, helping with business advice, and tagging along to shoots. Sara took him under her wing and taught him the basics of photography and beyond. Now, many years and several cameras later, Sara and Logan have a blast working together, pushing each other to be better, challenging each other to seek out new goals and aspirations, and keeping each other in check (Sara has Hangry Eyes when hungry, and Logan likes to make silly comments about an infinite number of topics). Below are some pictures of Sara and Logan growing up. Mostly from the early days, and mostly naked or in some pretty awesome 80's attire.

To see more about each individual sibling, check out Sara's page and Logan's page. Thanks!

Sara Wise

0001_8834069773-R1-E020_COPYRIGHT_LOGANPOTTERF_2015-3Sara is a mother to three tots, an artist, an entrepreneur, and a lover of clean sheets. Sara first picked up a camera at a very young age and has been doing photography in some capacity ever since. She went to college for photography as the world was evolving from analog film to digital, and so she learned how to shoot and develop film and gained a mastery in the art form of photography. Ever since she was a young teenager, she has worked diligently in areas that range from local ice cream shops, corn fields, pizzerias, to restaurants, until she could start up her own business. She has now been an entrepreneur for over 11 years, growing ever more popular in Athens and beyond as, Sara Wise Photography. Sara loves to bake (chocolate chip cookies are her specialty), listen to podcasts, educate herself on new business and photography approaches, and dabble in hair and makeup. Her God given talent is name recognition. She can remember a 20 member bridal party's names upon meeting them for the first time (and sometimes can recall the names for years). Oh, and dates. She will remember your wedding date for years... grooms, if you forget, give Sara a call! ;)

She loves photographing weddings with all of her heart. Growing up, Sara read volumes upon volumes of books, always leaning toward subjects that involved romance and family. Now, she gets to participate in real-life fairy tales (weddings), and capture each story's unique beauty and each couple's unique love. To every wedding, Sara brings organization, gentle command, direction, and confidence. She makes her brides and grooms look and feel like movie stars. She does all this while bringing an air of calmness and relaxation to the day.

Most of Sara's portrait clients, i.e. family, baby, and maternity, are past wedding clients/friends of hers. She adores seeing the same faces again when they decide to grow their family. She books portrait sessions aside from S + L Weddings through her company Sara Wise Photography. Below is her lovely instagram feed. Check it out and get to know her and her cute family.

Logan Potterf

COPYRIGHT_LOGANPOTTERF_2014013 Logan is first a stay-at-home dad and a husband, and in no particular order after, a cook, a photographer, a coffee snob, and a gardener, as well as many other things. He is obsessed with baking fresh sourdough bread, and loves fermenting food. He hopes to one day be referred to as a Renaissance man and build a home from scratch, but for now he will be content with being a hipster dad with a love for film photography. Logan and his wife Erin owned and operated an independent coffee shop for several years, before they moved on and had their first son, Micah. Logan discovered his love of photography, and two children (Ezra & Liam) later, Erin now teaches high school science and Logan shoots weddings in between staying home with their boys.

Logan believes photography is a quintessential part of life; something as important as eating and sleeping. He loves being present in the moment and focuses on capturing the honest moments that tie us to the past. Whatever the camera, iPhone, film, or high-end DSLR, Logan captures the story as it unfolds. He strives to constantly grow and change, while simultaneously keeping his work classic and timeless.

Weddings are one his favorite stories to capture. It's not the beginning of a love story, but one of the most important chapters. He loves getting to get to know each couple and to photograph their unique love. His favorite things to photograph at a wedding are portraits of the bride and groom and details throughout the day. He loves a bride and groom with style and taste, character and wit, and a great sense of humor.

Aside from weddings, Logan photographs family, children, newborn, and fashion under his own name, Logan Potterf. You can visit his website to see his lifestyle photography work, here. Follow him on Instagram: @loganpotterf
