Meet Maren and Griffin! Griffin is our brother and it's one of our favorite things to have him and his beautiful wife in front of our camera. We photographed their wedding last year as well but have to wait to share it as it's being featured on another blog! Until then, I hope you enjoyed this anniversary session and stay tuned for more of this couple!
In the meantime, here's their proposal story!
Griffin and I decided to take a trip for my 28th birthday in 2014. We decided to go to Asheville. We had talked about getting engaged in the future, but I had no idea he was going to propose that weekend! He had originally planned to propose at the Biltmore Estate, but we found out it's $50 a person to go walk around there! So we scratched that idea. He then suggested we go to the Botanical Gardens in Asheville and the North Carolina Arboretum. But it was February and there were pretty much zero live plants. On the last day of our trip Griffin mentioned he kind of wanted to see a waterfall. I ended up finding a waterfall outside of Asheville that was on the way back to Athens. So we made a pit stop on the way back. The first waterfall we went to was called Hooker Falls. We were able to get up really close to it! After standing down by the waterfall for a few minutes, I turned to walk back. As I did, Griffin said "Wait, I want to ask you something" and got down on one knee and proposed!!

One of our favorite things about photographing weddings is getting to know our couples and hearing their love stories. Their story of how they met is one for the books and we wanted to share it with you!
So tell us, how did you meet!?
It's both a funny and amazing story how Josh and I met. I guess you could say that we were right under each other's noses without even realizing it. Our dad's grew up together in Michigan, and have been friends for years. In fact, our dads were each other's Best Man in their own weddings! Growing up, Josh and I would see each other from time to time (Josh and his dad would go hunting with my dad every now and then) but we never thought anything of it. Josh was a few years older than me anyway, so we didn't have much in common at the time.
Fast forward MANY years later. I was in Respiratory Therapy school and Josh was in basic training. He is in the Army National Guard. Josh posted his address on Facebook to let his family and friends know so that they could write him letters. I thought, "Why not? I'll write him a letter. It's been years since we have talked and I'm sure he is lonely in boot camp. I'm a friendly person, right?" Well, I wrote him that letter, and he wrote me back! He even called me a few times! When his basic training was done, he wanted to catch up with my family, so all of us grabbed dinner. It was so nice catching up with Josh, and he was so funny!! Then, he asked if I wanted to grab dinner the next night...just the two of us. I guess you could say that the rest is history!! After our official "first date", we were inseparable. It was so comforting knowing that Josh and I already knew each other, but this time, it was on a romantic level. We are the absolute BEST of friends and are so blessed to have one another.

An Athens Taylor Grady House Fall Wedding
Fall in Athens is such a gorgeous time to plan a wedding when the weather is a bit cooler and the leaves start changing. Kate and Brock’s Athens fall wedding at the Taylor Grady House did not disappoint and was the absolute perfect day for a wedding. The historic landmark has so much charm and offered stunning backdrops for their first look, portraits and reception. And to top it all off, this groom made sure his kids were a special and integral part of the wedding and showered his bride with gifts throughout the day. Enjoy!
